| Bio: | I wish I lived in rural Scotland. However, I am trapped in the United States, where I breathe smog rather than moor-mist, pick weeds rather than thistles, and have no accent. However, I look like I belong on *my* island and my name, Kelly (or its original spelling, Ceallaigh), is Gaelic for "warrior maid, loyal and brave", which suits me, I should hope. I am a hopeless romantic and optimist, and I am proud of the fact that I cry easily. I'm not your average girl. There's a steely strength to me, and I have learned so much in the last year as far as relationships to other people go. I am a loyal friend. What you see with me is what you get. I stand out from the crowd, and I'm not afraid to be myself. I am a Tolkien purist (read all the books before seeing the movies), have been a huge fan of Orlando Bloom since before it was all cool to like him, am obsessed with Irish punk rock (Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys) and am a complete dork in many directions. I am indeed one of the hugest fantasy geeks you're likely to meet. My fandoms include LOTR, Harry Potter, The Matrix, Pirates of the Caribbean, Lost, House, Heroes, Grey's Anatomy etc, etc... Come check it out; we're a pretty new community but we're extremely active. If you love good political debate, you'll enjoy ontd_p.I am a huge Ian Thorpe, Michael Phelps, Pieter van den Hoogenband, Aaron Piersol, and Ian Crocker fan. Olympic swimming rocks. I also love Apolo Anton Ohno (I credit ![[info]](http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif){kind=small} labellereine for getting me really into him).My favorite female celebrity is Shirley Manson, and I love her style and personality and music. I also love Dita von Teese; she's gorgeous and I love her vintage look. On the whole, I prefer actors from my island, such as Orlando Bloom, Ewan McGregor, Dom Monaghan, Billy Boyd, Sean Biggerstaff, and their buddies. I am loud, opinionated, and very social. I love my university. I'm a Spanish/French major with a Political Science minor. I'm excited to really get into the college scene, which so far I love. I hope to study abroad in the United Kingdom in two years, maybe at the University of Edinburgh. I'm toying with the idea of moving there permanently at some point. I recently spent almost a month touring the five countries of the British Isles and I'm absolutely in love with the area. The history, culture, and the nature are absolutely beautiful. I think I'm a real Anglophile now. I am an enormous, nitpicking Grammar Nazi (stuff like pluralizing with apostrophes drives me mental). I also hate it when people misuse an expression like "couldn't care less". It makes me insane. Politically, I'm a liberal; I support gay rights and same-sex marriage, oppose the imperialistic war in Iraq, advocate complete religious freedom, am pro-choice, and despise censorship. I'm a feminist and apologize to no one for my views. I support Barack Obama for president in 2008. I have never been so excited about politics before! Religiously, I am still exploring my spirituality. I was raised Catholic but have deep problems with the Church and its teachings, as well as the teachings and practice of Christianity in general. I have recently begun studying Buddhism, and while I'm still in the learning stages, I find the dharma extremely inspiring and comforting. I believe wholeheartedly in reincarnation and the power of past-life regression therapy. I explore divination methods such as tarot reading and astrology. I would say I'm spiritual rather than religious. A great bumper sticker says: Religion is for people afraid of going to hell. Spirituality is for people who have been there. I wouldn't say I've been through hell, but there have been things in my life I wish I could erase, things I just don't understand. My spirituality helps me with that. I'm kind of a contradiction: while I identify as an atheist, I am incredibly spiritual. I admire atheism and believe that when organized religion is gone, the world will be a better place. I write for fanfiction.net (in the Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Lost, and Matrix fandoms) and fictionpress under the name Carcilwen Thorned-Rose, and the link to my poetry on fictionpress is in my journal. I'd rather write than draw (obviously). I'd describe my style as varying. Some days I look like a poet from a coffeehouse, complete with the glasses, and other days I look like I belong at a Green Day concert with Converse and black pants. Still other days I'm a ~fashionista~ with skinny jeans, treacherously high heels, Amy Winehouse-esque eyeliner, and enormous earrings.
